Lost Another Tooth

Emma, you and Taylor experienced your first hand's on fireworks with some sparklers. Only in Grammy and Papa's city can you do safe fireworks right on the streets!

Ben, this was your first experience being so close to fireworks too. We had these things called "eyeballs", I think they took the place of the blooming flowers. Well, they spun around then popped really loud. For the rest of the night you kept saying "eyeball broke" over and over again. You did not like the noise so you and uncle Todd wore ear protection.

Last Week of 1st Grade!

Emma, only one more day! And it will be a fun day. A splash day. This year went by so fast as did last year. You have grown so much in so many ways. Some things seem so trivial like you are now putting your hair in a clip or pig tails. Also, last week you finally learned how to ride your bike w/o training wheels. A lot of that has to do with us not taking you out to try. Ok, all of it does! And, mom taught you. Dad tried but did not succeed! You said that he upset you and that daddies are tough and mommies are soft. It didn't take you long, about twenty minutes and off you went.

Emma, we finally finished our shed, so as promised, we let you sit up in the loft. Now we have to move the darn thing 18" away from the neighbor's wall because they complained! I think they thought we would have to tear it down. Hopefully we will be finished with this project soon.

Last night was open house. You led us around your room on a scavenger hunt to show us all the things your class is working on. It was Earth Day last week so you all did some chalk drawings in groups, I guess with the theme to save the planet. Your group drew a school house with writing on it that said, "The Big Orange Splot." I asked you what it was. You said it was a book. I asked what it was about and you said it was about the big orange splot. Then I asked what the splot was and you said it was a book. This went around and around for about five minutes before I finally gave up.

Ben, you know that batteries make your toys work. Well, our router wasn't working so we didn't have any internet on our desktop computer. You watch Nickelodeon on that computer, you have a thing for Dora of all shows. The other day you kept pointing to the computer and saying Dora. I tried to explain it was broken and didn't work. Then, you started saying "battwee, battwee". I think that is the correct spelling!

Eclipse

Emma, it was really cloudy all day yesterday and I didn't think we would be able to see the eclipse. So, I did not prepare myself to take any pictures. I got a call from my friend Lucy and she said she was outside looking at it. We went out and there it was! You asked why the moon was red. Later on I went upstairs to find you and dad in the dark, he had an orange, a ball and a flashlight and tried to explain to you what an eclipse was. You thought it was more fun to make bunny shadows on the wall!

After months of your teeth being loose and about a month of them just dangling there, they finally came out! You pulled one out at school yesterday, which you were really excited about because you got to go to the nurse's office and get a purple treasure box to put it in. Then today you pulled the other one out right in front of me while standing in the kitchen.
Last night you did not want to let the tooth fairy take your tooth so Dad put a note up on your board to tell the tooth fairy to leave your tooth and keep her money!

Boot Camp Birthday Party

You went to Evan's birthday party which was themed all around boot camp. Here is just one of the many fun things you did. At first you didn't want to do it. Neither did Peyton but once she tried it she talked you into it by telling you she would give you a dollar, then ten dollars, then a pack of Oreos! Then you said ok. At first you were really hesitant. But, once you did it you wanted to do it again. I think you did it about 15 times and then you FELL! Right about from the same spot as in this picture. I think it scared you more than anything. Once you calmed down you got back up and did it about 10 more times.

Limping

Ben, you have been limping. You always have walked kind of funny but this is different. You aren't really bending your right knee or taking a full step with that leg. We took you to the doctors and they did x-rays. Everything seems to look ok. The doctor is going to have the radiologist look at the x-rays for a second opinion. There were two white lines but he said that those are blood vessels and not breaks. He told us to give you ibuprofen for two days and wait until the beginning of next week to see if there is an improvement. You do try to do the splits on our tile floors so maybe you just pulled a muscle.

You handed your binki to dad and said "here".
Other words: head, broccoli, toon town, "elmp" (help), eat, rain, outside, slide.
There are many more words you say but they escape me right now.
You just told daddy to "yit" (sit).

Visit With Old Roommate

We visited my friend Karin who I used to work with and we also had an apartment together before your dad and I got married. I tried explaining that to you, Emma, but you just gave me a funny look. Karin has a daughter, Lauren, the same age as Emma and a son, Nathan, the same age as Ben. How cool is that?! She also has an older daughter, Kelsey, that Emma kept bugging and wanted to hang out in her cool room.

You have two more teeth that have been coming in for about a month and a half. Emma noticed them first. She has a good eye. They are your top cuspids. They seem to bother you quite a bit. You have always had problems with the pain when teething. It breaks my heart to see you hurting the way you do. You bite or suck in on your bottom lip.

1/5 I guess your bottom cuspids are coming in as well. Just checked them a few days ago.

Today you said "all aboard" while holding your hands to your mouth. You love trains.

You seem to be picking up words a lot quicker now and really copying us when we say stuff.

Shark Teeth - Emma

Your two bottom front teeth have been loose for some time now, maybe a month or two. Your dad looked at your teeth and noticed that your big teeth are coming in behind them. He calls them shark teeth. I think you need to keep wiggling them in order to get them out. Hopefully they will come out before you start back to school.

Spending Christmas Vacation at the Rosene's

Since Emma has over three weeks off from school, we are staying at my mom and dad's house for at least a week. We rang in the new year (at 9:00) over a conference call with Emma as she was staying with her cousin Taylor. This is the first year we spent New Years away from home. We did the traditional "watch the ball drop" (at 9:00) and then we were off to bed. There was no way we were going to stay up until midnight.
